Near as we can tell, the first commercially produced flower sacks were made in the late 1800s of "osnaburg", a coarse white or brown cotton, and were stamped with a logo or label. This hand made tunic style shirt is made of similar cotton material.
The Grace Kennedy & Co was started in the 1920s in Kingston Jamaica, Red Sail was a brand of wheat flour. They no longer sell flour on the docks of Kingston, and cotton flour sack production stoped during the 40s due to conserving cotton for the (WWII) War effort. During the 1950s through the 60s there was a resurgence of reusing these graphic textiles due to the trend in pop art and street wear at the time.

There are open gussets on each side
Condition: excellent! Some marks on one sleeve, could be from overprinting, or it may have been made when the fabric had its life as a sack. We have not tried to remove it. We leave that up to the next owner.
